What is Kerberos?

  • Kerberos is a protocol used to authenticate service requests between trusted hosts on a non-secure network.
  • Kerberos uses tickets to allow the client and the server to verify each other’s identity.
  • The user’s proof of identity is encrypted with a secret key for the service requested. As long as the ticket is valid, the user can access the requested service.
  • The ticket is refreshed when the user signs on to the computer.
